S.H.E. UK Strengthens Its Commitment to Community Safety with J9 Training

At S.H.E. UK we remain committed to creating a safer, more supportive community for anyone affected by trauma or abuse. As part of this commitment, many of our staff team including trainees and volunteers have recently completed J9 training delivered by Equation. In total twelve members of our organisation took part.

Some 1.2 million women and 700,000 men experience domestic violence each year, according to the Office for National Statistics. J9 is named in memory of Janine Mundy, a mother of two, killed by her estranged husband in June 2003 whilst on police bail. The J9 initiative is designed to raise awareness and provide the skills to recognise abuse and the confidence to respond to disclosures, opening the door to safety and support. By taking part in this training, we are building our ability to offer practical help to those affected by this form of abuse.

We are proud to share that S.H.E. UK has now officially signed up to the J9 scheme and we are ambassadors for this important community initiative. You will now see a J9 sign displayed in the windows of our premises. This symbol shows that we are trained to support anyone experiencing domestic abuse and that we can offer a safe and confidential space to access a telephone, should someone need it.

This training strengthens the values at the heart of S.H.E. UK. It helps us ensure that anyone who reaches out to us feels heard, respected and supported. We want our community to know that they do not have to face difficult situations alone. Our doors and our hearts remain open.

If you or someone you know needs support, please remember that there are safe spaces in your community. We are one of them.
